My Chronicles as a Working Actor in Hollywood
My Chronicles as a Working Actor in Hollywood
I began my acting career when I was around 6 years old. I hated school and would feign sickness, to get to stay home. It worked. My Mom was not easily fooled, but I did it, time and again. Then after watching TV, I would 'act' out the parts I would see on the show. I was bit by the acting bug! After high school, I moved to LA to full fill my dream to become an actor. Once there however, I soon realized that although I was now standing in Hollywood, I was not any closer to the 'magic', than when I was back home in the mid west. I found that there were no 'stars' on Hollywood and Vine. They all live far away from the grind. There was no 'gold' in the sidewalks. There was only dog poop. There were no Producers, waiting to 'discover' me and make me a 'star'. There was just derelicts, drug attics and con men. I spent the next few years, drifting from one menial job to the next, not really having a serious focus on aiming at my acting career. You have to go work a real job and forget about your dreams. Otherwise, you sleep in the streets. Then the days go by, the years go by and your dream becomes dimmed, by the light of reality. Fast Forward to present times. After searching in my soul and in my mind and in my heart, I decided f*ck it! It's time to dust off that 'dream' and start my acting career. I started around 2018 and have had some success in getting odd roles, background parts and extras work. But not the real deal. I may one day grab that 'golden ring', with hard work, perseverance and believing in my dream. But SORRY!
Dreams alone do not produce reality. It's going to take a good demo reel, a great agent and being at the right place at the right time, called LUCK: Lost Until Captured by Karma. Yes, of course, you must be able to act. But any one can act, but not everyone will get the chance to act. So here is my 'diary' of the work I have done, to the present time, in no particular order; just like my life! Hope you enjoy and feel free to comment. And remember, be kind to one another. Peace is the answer.
Here's wishing you all, your dreams come true! See you on set! Thank you, my fellow 'actors' in Life. "Break a leg!"
I was 'booked' to play a 'miner' in the premier episode of Disney's new Star Wars TV series, 'Obi-Wan Kenobi'. See the Red Arrow in the Teaser Trailer above. That's me. In this scene, 3 Jedi-hunting 'Inquisitors' enter the saloon, amidst startled saloon patrons. They are searching for a suspected Jedi warrior. As the three enter the saloon, my character stands up from his table and tries to flee, but is stared back down in his seat, by the evil Fifth Brother, played by Korean American actor, Sung-Ho Kang. Sung is widely know for playing Han in the Fast and Furious series.
I was excited to interact with one of the principals in this shot and hope it makes the cut. "Break a Leg!"
I filmed three days on location which was at an abandoned mine. They had built an entire Star Wars 'city' down at the bottom of this dirty rocky pit, away from prying eyes and curiosity seekers.
This abandoned mine was just a big hole in the ground, about 1/2 mile long and about 500 feet deep. Strict security only allowed cast and crew to enter the location and then be bused deep down into the abyss.
The production was very secretive and protective of what was being filmed. You could not take your cell phone on set and we all had to wear long black robes the whole time, except when actually filming.
Even the Hollywood Reporter did not know anything about this production, it was kept so secret. But someone must have 'leaked' something to someone, because on the second and third day, we were 'buzzed' above by news helicopters.
This is a Costume Department photo ID of me after I was fitted. This then becomes a reference so they know how I was dressed. Notice the ID card reads 'MooseJaw'. This was the working title of the episode I filmed. The working title of the project was called 'Joshua Tree', later changed to "Obi-Wan Kenobi'
As I said, the working title for this project, was 'Joshua Tree'. Titles for Movies or TV often change post production. As I also stated, secrecy and security was very strict on and off set. We all had to sign a non disclosure statement and we all had to wear a name tag and wrist ID to enter the set.
Above is my original name tag and wrist ID as well as one of my checks. Yes, we do get paid for this 'madness'. I will save these memorabilia for posterity. Or maybe I can retire in a few years, selling these to Rick at Pawn Stars, in Vegas!
My final 'call ' time notice for one of the days of shooting on Star Wars/Obi Wan Kenobi. Notice the red box on the notice, warning actors NOT to bring their cell phones onto set, or be 'dismissed'.
The 'Grand Inquisitor' played by British actor Rupert Friend. In between takes he had to take off his prosthetic 'ears', so he could hear.
The 'Fifth Brother Inquisitor' played by Korean American actor, Sung Ho Kang. He is widely known for his role as 'Han' in the popular 'Fast and Furious' movies.
He told me it took 3 hours to apply his makeup every day. It was an awesome makeup job!
The 'Sith Inquisitor Reva' played by Moses Ingram is best known for her role of 'Jolene' in the Netflix mini series 'The Queens's Gambit'. She is the newest 'Inquisitor' and her storyline is crucial how this Disney 6 episode series plays out and may also become a major player in this Galaxy Far, Far Away.
